Recurrent Shoulder Dislocation
Introduction
Shoulder dislocation means the head of humerus is completely displaced out of the glenoid cavity. Shoulder joint is one of the most mobile and least stable joints of body. Recurrent dislocation implies having repeated dislocation of the shoulder and the patients having such tendency are known to have shoulder instability. It may follow after traumatic dislocation, due to generalized laxity of ligaments, due to gradual stretching of joint capsule.
Clinical Features
• Repeated episodes of pain and discomfort on shoulder movements.
• Apprehension test.
Investigations
• Xrays- Hill Sachs lesion.
• MRI/MRarthrography-Bankart lesion, Hill Sachs lesion.
• CT/CT arthrography
Management
Depends on the functional demands of the patients and level of disability.
Conservative management:-
Patient having sedentary life style those who are not involved in active sports/strenous activities may be managed by lust avoiding the activities which are likely to cause dislocation. Reduction by the patients or by the relatives. Refer to higher centre for surgical procedure where all the facilities are available.
